Fuse TV Presents: ‘Illmatic’ at 20: Nas Reflects on His Landmark Debut
Celebrating 20 years of “Illmatic,” Fuse TV offers a unique perspective of the creation of Nas’ landmark and timeless debut album with interviews from Nas, DJ Premier, Faith Newman and more.
In a three part series, Fuse TV, with help from Nas himself, chronicle the creation and the significance of his debut album Illmatic which celebrates it’s 20 year anniversary this Saturday, April 19th. Beginning with Nas’ first feature on Main Source’s “Live at the Barbeque” the world was awaken by the talent of a teenage emcee with a mastery skill level from Queens. Nas reflects on the real life times of the era including his personal life, the album’s production process, and the way the release shaped his career while solidifying his place in hip hop. Speaking on the importance of the album Nas states “Illmatic talked about every element of young life in the streets. And you can relate to that in Compton, you can relate to that in Chicago, you can relate to that in Oakland. It was me being that guy – the hustler, the young man who has a dream to get out this neighborhood.”
The three part series also features appearances from Nas’ brother Jungle, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Irv Gotti, Kevin Liles, and more. Watch the in-depth special presentation on Fuse TV tonight as it concludes at 7:30pm EST.
